MAKING SCHOOLS ACCESSIBLE
*Now updated to include schools’ duties under DDA 2005*

Making Schools Accessible - Access Resource Pack is available to LEAs and schools. Pioneered and disseminated through Surrey’s schools, this is brought to you jointly by Surrey County Council and Access Adaptions.

Surrey County Council (SCC) commissioned Access Adaptions to produce Making Schools Accessible - Access Resource Pack (ARP) to help schools deal appropriately with their legal duties under the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 (SENDA).

The Access Resource Pack informs non-technical staff of: their legislative duties, practical information on the range of barriers typically encountered in schools; and design guidance.

There is also advice on obtaining an access audit, procuring improvement works, linking works to asset and maintenance management; and the wider statutory duties schools have.

The document enhances schools' understanding of the issues affecting the accessibility of schools and allows them to make informed decisions, seeking professional advice when necessary.
